On this page you will find some detail on their development from the egg. They grow with amazing speed. When they hatch they are around 22grams in weight and 38 days later they will be flying, and will have attained a weight of around 300grams. |

You may be wondering why the difference in weights. I have this theory that it may be sex related. At this stage I have only a small l amount of evidence to back up this idea but in the past when I have handraised these birds, quite often there will be a weight difference. Some birds I had DNA sexed and it turned out that the heavier birds were usually female, but not exclusively, so the theory may be flawed. I am still working on it! |
