The
Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) |
|
We occasionally have surplus Kookaburras for sale to anyone who can arrange to collect them (if you are interested just email us) but please read through this page before you get too excited. These are wonderful birds to have around the place and relatively easy to maintain, but if you have not kept this species before there are a couple of basic facts you need to know Firstly they are VERY noisy, especially at the crack of dawn, so you need very understanding neighbours. A beautiful sound though it is, some people object to being woken at some ungodly hour of the morning by a pair of Kookaburras doing what comes naturally. Secondly they are very messy birds and whatever you feed them, they will take to the nearest perch and proceed to beat the crap out of it, with bits of whatever it is flying about all over the place. If you wish to
keep these birds in South Australia you will need a permit from our
National Parks and Wildlife Service. In other states you will need to contact your local wildlife authority. |
